We coordinated a walking tour of South South Portland with local author and oral historian Polina Olsen.

Based on her first-hand research with people who grew up in the predominantly Jewish and Italian neighborhood from the 1900's to the 1920's, Polina led us to residences, community buildings, businesses and other sites of historical significance.

South Portland has been sliced up by freeways and business parks. This walk enabled us to see past the mis-placed development and glimpse the humanity that was present before urban renewal and freeway construction destroyed the once-lively neighborhood.
